Newshub presenter Oriini Kaipara's response to a relentless viewers complaints

Oriini Kaipara is literally a QUEEN and Mana Wahine! FAXXX!!

She made headlines in 2019 for being the first journalist with a moko kauae to present on mainstream news bulletins in New Zealand, but it hasn't been without some backlash.

Yesterday she shared a screenshot on her Instagram of her replying to a someone called "David" and put them in their place!

"Today I had enough."

"We continue to object strongly to you using a Māori news presenter with a moku [sic] which is offensive and aggressive looking," he had written in an email addressed to the entire newsroom.

Kaipara then revealed that she responded to him. "I never do that. I broke my own code and hit the Send button. With love. And cheek!"

She shared another Instagram story later in which she writes,

"I may be small in stature but my skin is thick. I am my mother's daughter and knew exactly what would come with having a moko kauae as well as speaking in my native tongue on a Pākehā channel every day.

Does that mean I just let it happen? Nah. But I pick and choose my battles and that's wisdom as we Māori inherit from our tīpuna if and when we're open to it."
