Roger is the first Warrior to win the honour. There had been some other Warriors Dally M contenders over the years – Stacey Jones in 2002 and Steve Price in the late 2000's come to mind – but league's highest individual honour was always seen as a bridge too far for those from the Auckland club.

Tuivasa is known as a player who works tirelessly and does everything he can to succeed.

"I don't think I've seen too many with his drive to want to be the best," said Warriors assistant coach Andrew McFadden earlier this year. "He is constantly working on his game and that is probably his defining quality. Some talk about wanting to be the best, but he lives it."

That work ethic isn't new either – it's been evident since he was 10 or 11, and doing extra sessions before training with his father in Otara.

"A lot has come from my old man," Tuivasa-Sheck told the Herald earlier this month.

RTS was honoured by an amazing haka from his teammates at the awards ceremony last night.
