Kiwi star Jemaine Clement has just landed a major role in Disney's upcoming slew of Avatar sequels.

The Flight of the Conchords star will play Dr Ian Garvin, a marine biologist on Pandora.

The announcement was made on the official Avatar Facebook page this morning, with the note: "Glad to have you aboard Jemaine! It's Business Time" - a reference to the famous FOTC song Business Time.

Following the announcement, superstar director James Cameron, who helmed the first Avatar film - among other blockbusters like Titanic - also took to social media to welcome Clement aboard.

He said: "I've loved Jemaine's work for years and I'm really pumped that he's joining our cast as Ian Garvin, one of my favorite characters."

Avatar 2 is not due to release until December 17, 2021 after Disney recently announced it has been delayed another year, following numerous already-scrapped release dates.

Subsequently, the other sequels have moved to 2023, 2025 and 2027.

The role is a major move for Clement, off the back of the huge success he's had in recent projects like the What We Do In the Shadows series and his beloved role in Disney's Moana.
