The world has been anxiously waiting and finally, the day has arrived…
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's baby has been born – and it’s a boy!
The royal bundle of joy was born early Monday morning local time and while the name has yet to be revealed, Prince Harry did announce in a statement that they have a "very healthy boy".
Announcing the news in an official statement, proud new parents Prince Harry and Meghan Markle shared:
"This afternoon, His Royal Highness The Duke of Sussex shared the news of the arrival of his and the Duchess’ first born child. Their son was born early morning on the 6th of May, 2019 and weighs 7lbs and 3oz.
Their Royal Highnesses thank you for your support and kindness during this exceptionally joyful time in their lives as they welcome their baby boy."
A traditional easel bearing the royal birth notice was placed outside the Palace.
The couple confirmed the arrival of the new seventh in line to the throne in a statement posted on Instagram, thanking the public for sharing in an "exceptionally joyful" time in their lives.
Prince Harry said they were "absolutely thrilled" and thanked the public for their support, the BBC reports
Meghan and the baby were doing "incredibly well".
He said they were still thinking about names for the infant, who was delivered at 05:26 BST.
Buckingham Palace said "the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Lady Jane Fellowes, Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Earl Spencer have been informed and are delighted with the news.
"The duchess's mother, Doria Ragland, who is overjoyed by the arrival of her first grandchild, is with their Royal Highnesses at Frogmore Cottage."
Jacinda Ardern has revealed what New Zealand will send the new parents to celebrate the arrival of their new child. While the royal family cannot accept material gifts, Ardern said New Zealand instead sent various donations to charity and took part in environmental restoration work.
"We will be making a donation of $1000 to Little Sprouts, which gives packs of baby and children items to families in need." Jacinda Ardern said.
"We are also donating 10 trees to Trees for Kiwi Babies, for native tree planting events during Matariki 2019. These donations will celebrate all New Zealand babies, as well as the new Royal baby."
