Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson's Maui was based on his New Zealand champ Grandfather

Moana has been out for so long that it already feels like it's a Disney classic.

With that being said, it's only now that Dwane ' The Rock' Johnson has revealed who his Maui character was based on. You may want to take a seat for this one because you've managed to book yourself a ticket to Feels-ville. Johnson sent out a tweet revealing that his inspiration for Maui came from his grandfather High Chief Peter Maivia of Samoa:

Maivia had been a dominant force in wrestling all over the South Pacific winning championships here in New Zealand and in Hawaii before joining the WWE where he became known for his tattoos and grew to be inducted into the Hall of fame.
