Not since the days of Tony Garea and the Bushwackers has New Zealand had a star to call their own in the WWE ring!
Yet here we are, in 2017 and the Kiwi flag is flying high in the WWE once again! Dakota Kai will be competing in the Mae Young Classic, which will be streaming on the WWE Network (the wrestling equivalent of Netflix). A win and she'll cement her place in future rosters.
After more than 10 years of grinding away, working hard, at the tender age of 29 she's getting her moment to shine. From humble beginnings performing at the YMCA in Auckland to the glitz and glam of Florida, where she's training at the WWE Performance Centre, performing for the NXT, the WWE's development brand.
Kai has found herself rubbing shoulders and being trained by some of the legends of the game, like Shawn Michaels. She explained that when she told her mother she had to run to a closet to cry.
She's found herself in a juicy storyline as well, as she faces off against Australian Rhea Ripley in a trans-Tasman battle on September 5.
Proud of you giiiiiiirl!
