4x 2019 Pacific Music Award winner KINGS makes his next move with surprise hip hop drop ‘Up Next’.
After co-winning the “Best Producer” 2019 Pacific Music Award for album “LOV3 & 3GO” with co-producer 10A, Kings re-enters the ring and states his intentions with proud and symbolic mission statement 'Up Next'
‘Up Next’ is the first taste of the Kings’ next project, which is special for two reasons – the first being that he’s once again collaborating with hip-hop innovator 10A, and the second being that it sees him connecting with and reflecting his Māori roots through his craft.
For almost a decade Kings has been making music in his studio at Awataha marae (which was built by his grandfather - ground-breaking Māori artist Arnold Manaaki Wilson, and is managed by his father Anthony Wilson), but until this chapter, Kings’ heritage has not been a primary part of his music.
Kings explains: “I’ve only recently come into my Maoridom and want to share it how I know best, through music and imagery.”
‘Up Next’ is accompanied by a self-produced, self-directed music video that sees the man shedding his past-self. The video is woven with themes from of Maori culture, including visions of Taiaha and Korowai, and representations of new beginnings.
