Instant noodles were invented specifically as cheap, tasty and high-calorie to keep the Japanese full as food shortages plagued the nation after World War II.

Now a dietary staple of hung-over university students - two minute noodles are the perfect example of what we're told we shouldn't be eating - packaged, processed, salty carbs.

And in response to consumers rejecting the unhealthy two minute noodles, Maggi are changing their recipe drastically.

They've changed the formula of both their two-minute noodles and their recipe base sachets. With sodium levels being reduced up to 55 per cent, removing some preservatives and chemicals and introducing a gluten free range."

The packaging has also changed. The healthy-sounding phrases, "Simply good for you" and "Know what is inside" are peppered across the front.
